Release: REVIVE AUSTRALIA LAUNCHES AUSTRALIAN ALLEGIANCE ACT

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

If you lied to gain Australian citizenship, you should lose it and leave.

Revive Australia has today launched the Australian Allegiance Act, proposed legislation to ensure that people who deliberately lie in the Australian citizenship pledge to obtain an Australian passport can be prosecuted, stripped of citizenship and removed from Australia.

Australian citizenship is not a travel document to be acquired under false pretences. It is full membership of this country.

At a citizenship ceremony, new citizens pledge loyalty to Australia and its people. They promise to share our democratic beliefs, respect our rights and liberties, and uphold and obey Australian law.

That pledge must mean something.

The Australian Allegiance Act creates a specific criminal offence for a person who knowingly makes that pledge while having no intention of honouring it. Their later conduct can expose the original deception.

That may include publicly declaring that they will not assimilate into Australian society, rejecting any duty of loyalty to Australia, attacking Australia and its people, saying that white Australians have no culture or no legitimate claim to their own country, working to advance foreign interests against Australia, or engaging in conduct that is hostile, subversive or fundamentally contrary to Australian values.

If a person takes Australian citizenship and then behaves in a way that reveals they never intended to honour their pledge to Australia, they should be investigated and prosecuted for the fraud they committed in gaining it.

Once convicted and stripped of citizenship, they will not be allowed to remain in Australia through an automatic ex-citizen visa, permanent residency, a family visa or another citizenship pathway.

They leave. It’s as simple as that.

Revive Australia Founder and Executive Director Brian Marlow said Australia had allowed the citizenship pledge to become an empty ritual.

“Every Australian understands the difference between someone who has come here in good faith and someone who has used our country for their own ends,” Mr Marlow said.

“If you migrate here and try to become a citizen, you must understand that citizenship carries obligations as well as rights.”

“If someone deliberately lies to get an Australian passport, then goes on to openly reject Australia, work against Australian interests or show contempt for the Australian people, they should not be allowed to keep the prize they obtained by fraud.”

“The Australian Allegiance Act is simple. If you are found to have lied to gain Australian citizenship, you will lose your citzenship and you will be deported.”

Revive Australia is calling on federal MPs and senators to adopt the legislation and introduce the Australian Citizenship Amendment (Australian Allegiance) Bill 2026 to Parliament.
